27TH YEAR OF OPERATION SANTA CLAUS CAMPAIGN OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES NOV. 24
November 23, 2011
Pittsburgh - Thursday, November 24 will mark the launch of the annual Operation Santa Claus campaign. Now it its 27th year, Operation Santa Claus is a cooperative effort between Trib Total Media, Shop N Save/Supervalu and the Salvation Army. These three organizations come together each year to provide a complete holiday dinner to hundreds of thousands of needy families across Southwestern Pennsylvania. Children in those families also receive coloring books, crayons and a new or gently-used storybook as well.
Operation Santa Claus is a registered 501©3, all-volunteer organization. All of the funds raised go towards purchasing the groceries and bags that we distribute. Groceries are purchased through Shop N Save/SuperValu, packed into bags by Operation Santa Claus volunteers and distributed to needy families through the Salvation Army. Each bag contains canned fruits and vegetables, boxed potatoes, stuffing mix, muffin mix, snack crackers, flavored gelatin, snack cakes and more, including a $10.00 gift card towards the purchase of a meat product.
The generosity of our donors and volunteers make the campaign possible. No donation is too small; a contribution of just $17.25 will provide a family of four with all the ingredients for a nutritious and delicious meal this holiday season. We hope to raise over $120,000 this year, enough to deliver complete holiday meals to more than 6,750 families across five counties and served by more than two dozen Salvation Army units and corps.
Please donate today and help give the gift of a holiday meal. See your Trib Total Media newspaper for details or visit www.operationsanta.triblive.com.
